Partners In Conservation & Enhancement

The Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) works on behalf of its Program Partners to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife impacted by construction of BC Hydro dams in the Canadian portion of the Columbia Basin. In order to achieve its mandate the FWCP works with a range of supportive partners who provide a variety of financial, technical, and hands-on support. Meet Our Program Partners

The Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program, on behalf of its Program Partners, BC Hydro, the Ministry of Environment, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, is working to deliver a wide range of conservation and enhancement projects for fish and wildlife populations in the Columbia Basin. The Program Partners oversee implementation and provide a range of support to the FWCP.

The Ministry of Environment is responsible for fish and wildlife management in British Columbia and ensures compensation projects meet provincial objectives. The Ministry also provides the FWCP with technical expertise, strategic guidance, and in-kind services. Ministry staff are involved in the hands-on delivery of many projects and provide leadership that ensures fish and wildlife projects are effective and make a real, long-term difference.

BC Hydro is committed to addressing fish and wildlife needs in Canada's portion of the Columbia Basin and provides both funding and technical support to the FWCP. BC Hydro staff provide leadership and hands-on support on fish and wildlife projects. This is in addition to more than $4 million provided annually by BC Hydro to the FWCP.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is the agency responsible for the management of fish habitat in Canada. DFO reviews projects that may impact fish habitat and ensures measures are incorporated that prevent or mitigate any potential negative effects. The FWCP benefits from this federal Program Partner's strategic and technical advice on fisheries projects.
