Skink
Northern Alligator Lizard. More uniform colouration from brown to gray and rough skin. Please note, we are not seeking sightings of this species at this time (except from the East Kootenays). Western Skink. Note bright blue tail (on juveniles), stripes and smooth skin.


This colourful local lizard is blue-listed and we need recent and historic sightings from the following areas only:

  1. Kootenay Lake, north of Creston and along the West Arm.
  2. Slocan Valley and Slocan Lake.
  3. Arrow Lakes Reservoir (north of Castlegar)
  4. Nakusp & Revelstoke areas.
  5. East Kootenay.

Please confirm that the animal you are reporting had a BLUE TAIL (see photo). Thank you for your participation in this survey. Providing this information will help us establish a benchmark for the Western Skink range in the Columbia Basin.
