Title: Kinbasket Reservoir and Upper Columbia River Kokanee Spawner Index 2005

Authors: Harald Manson, updated by Louise Porto

Year: 2006

Report Abstract
This report summarizes results of the 2005 kokanee escapement survey for tributaries to Kinbasket Reservoir and the Upper Columbia River. Aerial counts were conducted on 2 and 6 October 2005. An estimated 236,760 spawning kokanee were enumerated in 11 index streams and rivers in the Kinbasket Reservoir drainage during the fall of 2005. This is higher than that observed in 2004, but is the third lowest index value recorded since 1996. Mean fork length and weight of spawners was sampled in Camp Creek. Mean fork length was 24.7 cm, slightly above that observed in 2005. A declining index of abundance in combination with declining fish size may signal reduced reservoir productivity.
