COLUMBIA BASIN DRAINAGE MAP
Since its inception in 1995, the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program has funded hundreds of projects to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife populations impacted by BC Hydro dam construction in the Canadian portion of the Columbia Basin.
To date, the FWCP has invested more than $35 million delivering fish and wildlife projects. Almost one-third of those projects focused on species at risk. Projects are delivered both by FWCP staff and a wide range of partners including First Nations, industrial partners, local communities and environmental groups.
A significant portion of our annual funding goes towards the Fertilization Program in the upper Arrow Lakes Reservoir and Kootenay Lake, one of the largest successful lake restoration programs in the world.
Other projects funded this year are aimed at habitat restoration, endangered forests and species inventory work. For a complete list of 2006 - 07 funded projects please review our fish and wildlife project lists. (see links at left)
